Entertaiment is a form of amusement or distraction, usually involving some kind of performance. It can range from a clown at a birthday party to a Broadway show, from a stadium rock concert to your friends fighting over the last potato chip. The word derives from the Latin inter tenere, meaning “to hold inside” or “hold together.” It’s associated with hospitality—indeed, entertaining guests is often considered part of the duty of a good host.
